  advantage of clean renewable energy and other green building technologies
 . On Saturday\, October 4th from 10am to 4pm\, hundreds of these buildings
  will open their doors to the public for the Green Buildings Open House. S
 earch the listing of open sites and visit them anytime throughout the day.
  This self-guided tour is free and open to the public.\n\nThe event\, whic
 h is part of the American Solar Energy Society's National Solar Tour\, off
 ers a unique opportunity for people to see first-hand how clean energy and
  green building practices can be put to work. Homeowners and building mana
 gers are on site to describe their green building features and answer ques
 tions. Members of the public are able to learn basic principles of green b
 uilding\, such as designing for solar heating ("passive solar")\, energy-e
 fficient building techniques such as superinsulation and air sealing\, saf
 e indoor air quality\, and resource-efficient and healthy building materia
 ls. Many of the buildings demonstrate how solar hot water is collected and
  stored\, how photovoltaics can be placed on or integrated into the shell 
 of a building to produce electricity\, and how wind can be used to generat
 e power. The Green Buildings Open House demystifies green buildings\, prov
 ing that they are comfortable\, affordable\, and attractive. Informational
